How Google is Ranking Tweets

WebProNews reported today the first solid information on how Google is ranking tweets. Three major things were mentioned:

.
  1. Tweets are ranked by how many followers someone has along with how reputable those followers are. (Good)
  2. Google is able to sift through tweets, even on popular subjects, to find the freshest information (Good)
  3. The use of #Hashtags is considered spam-like behavior (what?)
.

I agree and commend Google for the first two but I really don’t agree Read more

How I Overcame Being a Type A Personality

relax

I used to be your stereotypical Type A personality.  Wikipedia says the following about Type A’s:

.

“Type A individuals can be described as impatient, time-conscious, concerned about their status, highly competitive, ambitious, business-like, aggressive, having difficulty relaxing; and are sometimes disliked by individuals with Type B personalities for the way that they’re always rushing.  They are often high-achieving workaholics who multi-task, drive themselves with deadlines, and are unhappy about delays. Because of these characteristics, Type A individuals are often described as ’stress junkies.’”

.

That is a pretty accurate description of how I lived almost all of my adult life. I’d work insane hours for 6-8 months a year and leisure travel the rest of the year. Read more

Creating a Membership Site – Part 2

puzzle

In Creating a Membership Site – Part 1, I shared with you my technical goals for the YOAL site along with my major challenges.  Today you’ll find out how I met my goals while overcoming the challenges.

With membership sites being so popular now, I thought it would be relatively easy to do what I wanted to. It wasn’t.

I tried many different plugins, apps and ASP services in an attempt to create a seamless experience for both website visitors as well as Coaching Club Members. With most combinations I came up with, members would end up having multiple log-ons and receive way too many emails.  I wanted to keep things simple. Read more

Let’s Raise the Bar

Hurdle

The standards we set for ourselves impact our lives – and our businesses – in so many ways.

A couple of days ago I shared some thoughts about how striving for perfectionism can be detrimental for entrepreneurs.  But there’s the flip side.  Unfortunately, our society – and entrepreneurs are no exception to this – has become very accepting of mediocrity. Being good – passable – is good enough for many people.

You can put in the time, be sincere in your dealings and aim for mediocrity. What can you expect? You’ll likely see average results. Read more

How to Make 2010 Your Best Year Ever – Part 2

Big Possibilities Await YouThis is the second half of a post I originally wrote in 1997. Click here to read Part 1.  It was published in several dozen print newsletters and on even more websites. I received literally thousands of emails and letters from people who said it had impacted them in some way. I thought it would serve as a good initial first post for this website since it’s a perfect demonstration that many core principles never change. I hope you enjoy it!
